Resident Testimony: “As a mother, and child of God, I somehow lost my way in life, leading me and my child into a deep dark hole of being broke and homeless. Mt Hope took our hands and with all their hearts of love, gave us a home and a direction to a brand new life, a new way of thinking, a new way of walking, and a new way of seeing. We are no longer blind to our future. We can see the light, thanks to Mt.Hope.

“PROJECT HAITI” SEWING DAY AT THE WELL

Free Methodist Church to Send Dresses and Shirts to Clothe Orphans

Following a catastrophic earthquake that devastated much of Haiti on January 12, 2010, countless individuals contributed aid to help rebuild the country and her people’s futures. However, rebuilding is not an overnight process. Life does not pause for those who continue to live in a disaster zone. Now, over two years later, Haiti is still struggling to recover.

The women’s ministry of the Free Methodist Church, 1010 S. Maple, has organized a sewing day on Saturday, March 31, at the Well, 101 N Main, from 1:00-5:00 p.m. Volunteers are invited to sew simple dresses and shorts (patterns provided) to send with a 19-member team of teens and adults from the church when they travel to Haiti June 5-12. The clothes will be distributed to an orphanage outside Port-au-Prince.

All are invited to participate. Even a novice can help put together the simple patterns. Participants are welcome to bring their own sewing machine, iron, and/or ironing board. Additionally, donations of fabric and 1-inch width elastic are being accepted at the Free Methodist Church (M-F, 8:00-5:00). For more information about the patterns, materials, and overall organization of this sewing day, contact coordinator Tammy Rose, 241-2141.

The Free Methodist Church has been present in Haiti for decades. As a result of the 2010 earthquake, one career and two short-term FM missionaries lost their lives, and countless others were left homeless and/or orphaned. Through International Child Care Ministries over 20,000 children are sponsored around the world, with a majority served in Haiti, providing food and education. In addition, the church provides assistance through the Haiti Food Fund. Learn more at www.childcareministries.org .
