Churches United in Ministry (an organization of local churches) will dedicate its new building (several units on the 200 block of South Main) on Sunday afternon, April 22, 2012. The building incldes the new Save ‘N Share store as well as Ministry offices. Between 2:00 and 3:00 you can tour the facilities, make cash donations, learn about volunteering, and enjoy light refreshments. At 3:00 a short program will take place with dedication of the building by representatives of area churches. Please join us to celebrate and dedicate.

Churches United in Ministry was founded in 1968 to minister to the needs of individuals in McPherson County. The primary source of funds comes from the sale of goods through Save ‘N Share. To date, the store has raised more than $1,000,000. Programs supported by Churches United In Ministry include transient support distributed through the McPherson Police Department, distribution of fans, utility support, and programs to assist individuals who fall between the cracks of other programs. The office also administers Salvation Army Funds which are collected locally. In addition, they administer two grants from the McPherson County Foundation as well as specific small ministries from several member churches.

Because of these programs, Churches United in Ministry represents Jesus to those in need in the county. Twice last year the organization fuded the travel of an escort to accompany minors who needed to travel to or from California to take up residence with a new guardian. It provided housing to individuals stranded in the middle of the night and gas to individuals in need of gas to go to out of town doctor’s appointments. Once last year a family was moving to Idaho and had car trouble in town. At the same time one of the family members experienced a medical crisis. Through the ministry offices, the family’s needs were met and they were able to resume their journey.

Truly, Churches United in Ministry through the proceeds of Save ‘N Share are the hands and feet of Jesus to those in need in McPherson County. Please join us on April 22.
2:00 Tours of facility, refreshments, opportunities available
3:00 Brief Program
3:15 Dedication Ceremony

Free Methodist Church to Send Dresses and Shirts to Clothe Orphans

Following a catastrophic earthquake that devastated much of Haiti on January 12, 2010, countless individuals contributed aid to help rebuild the country and her people’s futures. However, rebuilding is not an overnight process. Life does not pause for those who continue to live in a disaster zone. Now, over two years later, Haiti is still struggling to recover.

The women’s ministry of the Free Methodist Church, 1010 S. Maple, has organized a sewing day on Saturday, March 31, at the Well, 101 N Main, from 1:00-5:00 p.m. Volunteers are invited to sew simple dresses and shorts (patterns provided) to send with a 19-member team of teens and adults from the church when they travel to Haiti June 5-12. The clothes will be distributed to an orphanage outside Port-au-Prince.

All are invited to participate. Even a novice can help put together the simple patterns. Participants are welcome to bring their own sewing machine, iron, and/or ironing board. Additionally, donations of fabric and 1-inch width elastic are being accepted at the Free Methodist Church (M-F, 8:00-5:00). For more information about the patterns, materials, and overall organization of this sewing day, contact coordinator Tammy Rose, 241-2141.

The Free Methodist Church has been present in Haiti for decades. As a result of the 2010 earthquake, one career and two short-term FM missionaries lost their lives, and countless others were left homeless and/or orphaned. Through International Child Care Ministries over 20,000 children are sponsored around the world, with a majority served in Haiti, providing food and education. In addition, the church provides assistance through the Haiti Food Fund. Learn more at www.childcareministries.org .

Well, truth be told, more than a few are desired. Reading isn’t just for those of the female persuasion; there are some great writers in the Christian realm who crank out good reads for men such as you.

We are currently working on building a strong collection of fiction for men. (And if you don’t mind, I imagine a few of these titles will be read by some of our women as well).
To start off, a few Peretti and Dekker books have been added. They are new to our library and perhaps to you as well. House was co-written by the two authors previously mentioned, a supernatural thriller that raises the bar in this genre.

Dekker’s Monster, a 2005 title written by the undisputed master of supernatural thrillers, proves that nothing is as it appears in this read where things that go bump in the night are only a heartbeat away. Blink, by Mr. Dekker, is a tale cloaked in the mystery of Saudi Arabia – this title proves he has a rare knack for compelling stories, woven with clever ideas, and a unique wit.

And introducing Steven James, an author from Tennessee, who wrote his first series in recent years: the Bowers Files; beginning with The Pawn (2007), The Rook (2008), and The Knight (2009). This series introduces you to FBI agent, Patrick Bowers: giving you chilling and intense psychological thrillers guaranteed to keep you on the edge of your seat.

Very soon, Oliver North’s International Intrigue Trilogy will be resident in our “New Books display.” His novels are stories of international intrigue, political espionage, and military adventure drawn from his own experiences as a combat-decorated Marine and the Counter-Terrorism Coordinator for the United States from 1983-1986. Titles include Mission Compromised, The Jericho Sanction, and The Assassins.

So men, now that we’re entering those evenings when the sun sets before we’re ready to call it a day, you can settle in with a warm cup of something, prop up your feet in the recliner, and choose to involve yourselves in a good novel worthy of your time.
Visit the library, located on the east wall of the Church Parlor, and “check out” these books as well as others.

Last week, the US HOR introduced HR 2830, the reauthorization of the Trafficking Victims Protection Act. This critical piece of legislation was first adopted by congress in 2000 and has provided federal funds, training, and policy directives that protect victims and help stop the perpetrators who commit these heinous crimes.
